This year, between Sunday July 7 - Friday July 12, an international IEEE conference, the "IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory" (ISIT 2024), is being organized in Athens, specifically at the Athenaeum InterContinental, with an expected participation of approximately 1,000 academics, researchers, and students from around the world. I, along with other colleagues from other Greek and International Universities, serve as members of the Organizing Committee and we are responsible for coordinating and organizing it.
For this reason, I invite you to participate as volunteers – assistants and become part of this great project that will support the scientific and technological community of our country in many ways.
Volunteers’ responsibilities
- The volunteers’ main responsibility is their daily presence at the venue.
- They will work at the registration desk to facilitate the arrival and registration procedure of the delegates.
- During the presentations they will be responsible for the smooth operation of the sessions in all the meeting rooms, providing assistance to the attendees.
- They will assist with social events that will take place in various parts of the city, as well as on the busses that will transport the delegates.
- They will keep track of the conference every day, with photos and videos.
- They will assist with various tasks creating a unique conference experience for our attendees.
- Fluency in English is a prerequisite.
Volunteers’ benefits
A thorough selection of approximately thirty students will be made, who will be offered various benefits, including:

- One free tutorial
- Coffee breaks and meals during the conference
- Certificate of attendance
The involvement of the volunteers with the conference will broaden their horizons, offering the chance to establish connections with researchers from universities worldwide, or even with high-ranking executives of large international companies such as Qualcomm, MERL, Samsung etc..
It is understood that participation in the conference as a volunteer is not guaranteed. Organizers will not cover travel or accommodation expenses. Once the applications have been evaluated and the number of volunteers has been finalized, a training session will be scheduled with the conference organizers. During this session, volunteers will receive detailed information about the conference venue, their responsibilities as registration assistants, room monitors, social events escorts and all other tasks necessary to ensure a successful conference experience for attendees.
